TEEJ - THE FESTIVAL OF SWINGS

TEEJ - THE FESTIVAL OF SWINGS

Rajasthan in its very name is a royal state. The state is unique and so are its beautiful festivals. We bring to you information about Teej , the festival of swings.

Teej is celebrated on the onset of monsoons to celebrate the refreshing rains falling on the arid lands. The fragrance of wet soil in the air and swings along with pretty ladies dressed in leheriya sarees is an absolute delight.

Teej is celebrated to mark the union of Lord shiva and Parvati. It is a female centric festival where ladies dress up in vivacious leheriya sarees and worship Parvati. They sing songs and swing from trees.

An elaborate and beautiful procession is taken out in Jaipur for two days to celebrate this festival.

Sinjara is celebrated one day prior to Teej where unmarried girls and ladies apply mehendi and eat ghewar (A rajasthani specilaity)

To further throw light on the traditions,  It is customary for Mothers in law to gift daughters in law a piece of jewelry on her first teej after marriage.

Mehendi , new clothes , jewelry , swings and procession... a pretty neat festival ...Isn't it ladies ?
